New South Voices is a project of the
Special Collections Unit, J. Murrey Atkins Library,
University of North Carolina at Charlotte. It provides online access to a unique collection of interviews, narratives and conversations documenting the Charlotte region in the 20th century.
The interviews cover a wide range of historical subjects, from African American churches and Billy Graham crusades to women's basketball and World War II. Other interviews, narratives and conversations document the experiences and language of recent immigrants to the area.
The
New South Voices project is still in development. New interviews are being added daily. Please note that media files are not yet available for all the transcripts. As a pilot project, we are happy to share information about the technology behind the project and we welcome and encourage
questions, suggestions and feedback.
New South Voices is proud to be a part of North Carolina
ECHO,
Exploring
Cultural
Heritage
Online, a collaboration providing access to special collections throughout the state.
New South Voices is supported in part with federal LSTA funds made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
