New South Voices Multicutural Institute

In June 2008, 14 social studies teachers participated in the New South Voices Multicultural Institute. The goals of the Institute were to familiarize teachers with the history of Charlotte African-American communities, to engage them in the use of primary resource materials in their classrooms, and, to provide thedigitization training needed to develop web based curriculum materials for use in their classrooms. The Institute was made possible by a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the NC Department of Cultural Resources and 10% in matching funds from UNC Charlotte.
